Difficulty

2 stars – For boat supported trip versions. For beginners to experts. Short to Medium long day trips with empty kayaks. Need to be a little fit and camping experience is a plus.

Overview

  • Total 12 days
  • 9 nights in Misool
  • Boat supported or Unsupported version
  • First 5 days kayaking (3 nights homestay and 2 nights camping)
  • Last 5 days in homestay (4 nights in homestay)
  • 2 nights at a ferry cabin with AC

The Medium start trips always start on Monday afternoons and ends on Friday mornings in Sorong. It is possible to arrive by flight the same day the trip starts. It should be possible to take the first early flights out the last day but NOTE that the ferry might be delayed.

Special with this trip:

  • Kayak through the whole North island chain with most of Misool highlights. Also do peak hikes and caves on land or the sea.
  • Excellent snorkeling from the outer archipelago the whole way to the inner archipelago and is also possible in one jellyfish lake.
  • See how the water changes into different shades of blue as you kayak in and out of lagoons that are tucked away into the islands.
  • Camp on a beach in front of a blue hole and wake up to see the silhouette of interesting rock formations.
  • Stay 4 nights in a homestay of your choice after the trip for some time to rest, relax and reflect on the trip while still surrounded by the beautiful nature of Misool.
  • It’s the perfect trip for those who might not want to paddle too long but still want to stay in Misool. And you can come back and make the Medium End trip later!

A more relaxed and shorter version of our long trips. A 12 day trip with 5 days of kayaking in the outer and mid archipelago of Misool with 2 nights camping with a spectacular view of a lagoon and interesting karst formations. See spectacular high islands, deep blue and turquoise lagoons, diverse underwater life and a jellyfish lake visit. At the end we will spend the rest of the trip in a homestay of your choice.

Boat supported Medium Start trips (not boat all days)
We have boat support on the days we change accommodation. No boat support on the days we make day trips from basecamp and inner archipelago homestay. You kayak with an empty kayak which is a little faster and more agile so you get more time to explore Misool and go through rock formations.

On the Boat supported Medium Start trips we paddle two big islands instead of one like in an Unsupported Medium Start trip. The Boat supported Medium Start trips works for experts who want more paddling to beginners who want easier paddling. This way we can adapt the trip and we have help from the boats when we paddle longer. No long kayaking distances if not wanted. For families and beginner couples it works with the use of double kayaks. 2 nights camping in 1 basecamp. 7 nights at 1 to 2 homestays.

Unsupported Medium Start trips (boat first and last day)
This Unsupported version is in expedition style. It has almost the same itinerary as the Boat supported Medium Start trips but with a few differences. After the first paddling day we go directly by boat to the basecamp at mid archipelago to create an extra day. So no long second paddling day along the 2 Big Islands. It’s thus rather easy paddling to go to the Inner archipelago by Unsupported Medium Start trips.

Paddling with loaded kayaks all the days when moving between accommodation. Some camping experience is good for doing the unsupported Medium trips but it works fine for beginners making it. It is also possible to use a double kayak with a guide. 2 nights camping in 1 basecamp. 7 nights at 1 or 2 homestay.
